SEO Recommendations

for www.drdaisy.com

1. Optimizing your Pages:

It is important to name each of your pages with unique Page Titles for the pages' SEO Page Titles and Descriptions. Keep the SEO page titles to 70 characters maximum ideally. Descriptions can be anywhere from 50-350 characters (including spaces).

ON EACH PAGE: We also should add at least 300-1,000+ words to every main page to help build out the SEO value of each page. The text can be arranged at the top, and more at the bottom of the pages, it doesn't matter if pages are long – and having lots of original copy and images on each page is important!

Images - Take lots of photos!

Posting original photos and graphics of food, exercise, people, recipes, outdoors, gardens, etc, and make sure to add good keywords as the “Image Text” with to tell Google what your image is about. In Wix, you can find this under the Image Settings (look for the gear icon when an image is selected). The more unique photos on your website, the better for SEO. We can post lots of photos in the blog and optimize them to be found.

MENTION LOCATION:

It is good to mention your location (serving Rockville, Baltimore, Maryland, Washington DC). Include a blurb about all the locations you serve (and also mention you also can do over-the-phone virtual consultations as well for people around the country/world). Keeping a blurb like this on each page will help you with local results:

We are dietitians based in Rockville, Maryland, offering nutrition counseling to help  with eating disorders, Intuitive Eating, PCOS treatment, Teen Nutrition, Binge Eating, Emotional Eating and other disorders. We offer nutrition counseling to clients living Maryland, Washington DC, and surrounding areas. We also provide Skype Nutrition Counseling for people around the world.

Here are my recommendations that I can apply to the site once we review and approve:

HOMEPAGE:

Page Meta Title:
Nutritionist in Maryland | Washington DC | Dr. Daisy & Associates

Page Meta Description:

Add more text to homepage for SEO:

Let's add more content to the homepage, including adding the shopping cart with the six flavors. I'd like to add at least 1000 words to this page – this text can mostly be at the bottom of the page in a couple columns with small highlight images to make it look nice and so it won't overwhelm the page.

500-1,000+ words per page should be written up on each of these pages, and should be entirely unique to that page (no copied text that is used elsewhere). It would also be good to get new unique photos for each of these pages (5-10 photos per page). The more photos and text there is, the more prominent your page will look to google.

Below is what I have written so far with SEO in mind for the homepage, feel free to modify and edit/add to it. The more text, the better!

Blogging & Add Pages:

We are going to use all of these keywords on the right to create new pages and/or blog posts about each and every well-searched term over the next year. Any of these keyword phrases are highly searched and each one can be it's own blog. I will be writing blogs for you as part of my retainer, and I will focus on these terms, but feel free to write additional posts as you have time, as the more the better for SEO! When we review my SEO recommendations over the phone, I will review how to optimize blog posts (and pages) most effectively as well for SEO.

.............................

3. Using Social Media for SEO:

I will be doing a lot of this for you as part of my ongoing Social Media retainer. But here's my overall recommendations:

Using social media to post regularly and link back to your site will greatly help with SEO.

Also, with your Dr. Daisy social media accounts, find related businesses such as Restaurants, Specialty Food Stores (like Marczyk’s, Gift Shops, or Garden Shops like City Floral that sell local gift items, or Locavore Blogs, Made in Colorado Sites such as uncovercolorado.com, Foodie Blogs,  – and engage with them – “like” them and post comments.

For example, you could “Like” every local Restaurant as Dr. Daisy, post comments on their posts. You can even reach out and see if they want some sample bottles to feature in their restaurant.  “Like” every  and beyond… when you like other businesses, they often will check you out and may like you in return, which helps in building your social media audience.  Find related groups that you can join (will have to be under a personal account), and post links to your new Wongo blog posts, reviews page, etc. Every inbound link helps!

Sharing

Create, post on your website (blog or otherwise), and then share LOTS of Nutrition tips, common questions, symptoms of different problems that can be helped with nutrition, recipes, etc, etc.

Find Like-Minded Websites and Reach Out:

People are always looking for content on their blogs and news websites. They love to share top ten lists, recipes, nutrition tips, etc.

It is also great if others post about your tips or recipes in their own social media avenues. Every link is a seed planted for Google and SEO!

Businesses to reach out to on Social Media:

As your brand Facebook account, you can also follow/like and interact with businesses related to what you do. For example, you can like partner doctor offices / grocery stores / farmers markets / spice shops /  occupational therapists / psychotherapists / etc.

We want to ideally engage a ton of different websites to inspire them to write about and include Dr. Daisy on their sites and in their social media. The more links that are coming in from outside sites, the better. It would be great to get more articles written about Dr. Daisy and doctors/nutritionists, and people are always looking for content, so reaching out and engaging with these companies on social media may lead to an article or at least a mention! Links are of course best for SEO, as each link from outside websites counts as a vote for your site by Google. The more "votes”, the better you’ll do for various search terms.

Facebook Groups are a great way to engage an audience:

It would be good to join different PCOS or other Nutrition or other Eating/Dieting Facebook Groups, and participate in discussions, and occassionally add links to blog posts to address questions/topics. Groups have to be joined under your own personal profiles (you can’t post in groups as a business). Here are some groups to join and participate in:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/pcosgrouphelp/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/177292986010971/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/227108644057792/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/387436098065609/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2052108221703835/

You could also create one or more Facebook Groups such as “Nutrition for Women/Men” or “PCOS & Nutrition / or Treatment” or “ Intuitive Eating” etc, and post content and links in the groups regularly.

Create & Use a Google+ Brand Page:

While Google+ is going to be phased out in April 2019, for now it's still good to post there as it's a direct ear to Google for quick indexing of new content. Let's create a Google+ busines profile under your Google Business account so that we can post lots of links to the website pages and blog posts.

Create & Use a YouTube Brand Channel for Dr. Daisy:

Creating a YouTube Channel under your Google Business account and uploading new videos really helps with SEO as YouTube is owned by Google, and Google LOVES new videos!  This is also a great way to get in front of more eyes. You could do videos with Nutrition Recipes or tips to help with PCOS or other health problems and disorders. Uploading videos often on YouTube, and adding a link back to the website on every video's description can really boost your SEO and internet presence.  We can also make some videos using free video creating tools like Lumen5 to create simple moving video montages of recipe photos or food photos along with the recipe text headlines and even music. It's a great free tool! Here’s an example of a quick Lumen5 video I created for Dennis Pendleton for his classes.

Post to your Facebook & Pinterest & Instagram Business pages:
The more posting you do, the better! Make sure to link back to your website often, especially with links to new blog posts, your products, photos, and other news. If you post anything on Facebook or Pinterest, think about how you can also post the same content in your blog – the more pages you have with original content about good keywords that we identified, the faster Google will notice you and move you up in the rankings.

FROM CLIENT:

Worksheet for Initial Keywords

Our mission is to help our clients eat in the most natural, normal, and stress-free way possible, even if they’ve tried every eating plan on the planet and nothing has ‘worked’.

Our non-diet dietitians use sound nutrition science coupled with behavioral psychology to teach our clients the skills they need so that they can eat without worry and never feel the need to diet again.

 Services we provide:

  • Counseling and recovery for eating disorders

  • Nutrition and body image counseling for emotional, binge, and compulsive eating

  • Non-dieting solutions for concern over over-eating and over-weight.

  • Family-based nutrition counseling for concerns of childhood overweight

  • Family-based nutrition counseling for concerns of picky and selective eating

  • Nutrition counseling for clients with psychiatric issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bi-polar disorder, and PTSD.

  • Medical nutrition therapy within an intuitive, non-diet eating framework for a wide variety of medical issues, including gastrointestinal disorders, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disease, PCOS, and others

  • Occupational Therapy and Feeding therapy for concerns of picky eating and sensory-based food challenges.

  • Sports nutrition/nutrition for athletes

  • Nutrition during pregnancy and lactation

Services we most want to PROMOTE:

  • Intuitive eating

    • What IS Intuitive Eating? It is a non-dieting, weight inclusive approach that teaches people to use their own body cues (hunger and fullness) to decide when and how much to eat instead of making food decisions based on "shoulds", "rules", and diet culture.

  • Nutrition counseling for emotional eating, binge eating, dieting, yo-yo dieting, weight struggles, food obsession, food addiction, night eating, weight cycling

  • Body image

  • Adolescent nutrition

  • Nutrition counseling for PCOS

  • Feeding Therapy and Occupational Therapy for Picky Eating, selective eating, selective eating disorder, and ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder)

  • Eating disorders: Anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder (BED)

  • Nutrition for gastrointestinal issues and disorders

Our client avatar: Our clients are typically highly educated, type A perfectionistic, upper-class professionals from the DC suburbs. We are often NOT the first nutritionist our clients have worked with before. Our clients do a lot of research and believe in investing in their health. Parents of teens and younger children see the need for an experienced nutritionist. Adults, however, only enroll with us after trying everything else first. We are private-pay (we do not take insurance).

When writing, want to look up keywords to find out the best phrase to use that people are searching? Here are some good tools:

Good Keyword Tools:

keywordseverywhere.com

This is a easy and instant Chrome browser add-on tool that lets you quickly search the search volume of any keyword or keyword phrase. A great quick alternative to the Google AdWords Keyword Planner, though I wish it also had similar keyword recommendations like Google's planner tool. But I like it for a quick search, AND it gives you exact numbers of searches, whereas Google just gives you ranges (1K-10K), so that's a super cool bonus!

Google AdWords Keyword Planner
This is a great tool where you can insert your keywords, and Google will tell you how many people search that keyword per month, PLUS it makes recommendations of other keywords you could use (for example, if you think people are searching for "denver furniture" – but there are a lot more people searching for "denver furniture store". This is a great tool to figure out what to write about on your website.

Note: these days you do have to pay at least $1 a month in ads to see the full stats (exact search numbers, otherwise it gives you a range like 1000-10,000k searches). Although Google would never admit it, Paying for Google Adwords every month legitimizes your business with Google and it appears to help with your natural rankings. Even if you spend $50/month, it could help with overall SEO and traffic.

AnswerThePublic

A fun long-tail keyword search tool so you can see what questions people are searching for around any keywords you specify. You can also select results by country. The interface is a little slow (it's using sophisticated "diagrams" to display the data, which I think they could do without for the sake of speed and simplicity, but all in all this is a good free tool). You can download the excel file and/or copy and paste the terms into Google Adwords or Keywords Anywhere to check on stats.
