Digestive and
Gastrointestinal Disorders

and other medical nutrition needs

Adrienne Inger, LDN RD

Chief Gastric and Medical Dietitian at Dr. Daisy & Co

I will work with your unique body, medical history, presenting challenges, symptoms, and food preferences. Expert and compassionate medical nutrition therapy can help you eat with confidence and ease.

Digestive concerns or gastro-intestinal distress? You are in the right place.

Here are a few examples of issues Adrienne can help with:

  • Providing gastrointestinal nutrition support for a wide variety of diagnoses, including IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), Gastroparesis, Celiac Disease, Food intolerances, MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), EoE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis), Dyspepsia

  • Reviewing your labs, medications, and health history. This thorough and personalized nutrition consultation takes your entire health picture into account.

  • Deciding what to eat. Identifying foods that will not only be gentle on your digestive system but communicating these recommendations in a way that alleviates confusion and overwhelm. Addressing food sensitivities and intolerances, like lactose or histamine.

  • Creating an improved meal and snack schedule. Timing meals and snacks appropriately can significantly improve symptom management.

  • Eating anxiety. Fearing that something bad might happen when you eat, like having to run to the bathroom (urgency) or dealing with significant post-meal symptoms like bloating, distention, cramping, or gas
  • Falling into rigid eating patterns. Adrienne will focus on the interplay between the brain and the gut (our enteric nervous system) to relax and prime the digestive system and promote more food flexibility, and overcome food neophobia (fear of trying new foods).

  • Avoiding social eating, eg. parties and restaurants. Offering specific strategies, including food plans and the appropriate use of digestive enzymes and supplements.

  • Feeling appropriate hunger and fullness signals. Hunger and fullness signals can be disrupted due to a combination of gut hypersensitivity, altered motility, and the gut-brain axis dysfunction.

  • Choosing digestive enzyme, fiber, and other supplements that are effective and learning how and when to take them.

  • Managing medication side-effects, particularly as they relate to appetite and bowel habits and collaborate with your prescribing physician for wrap-around care.

Digestive issues and co-occuring conditions

  • Our clients typically struggle with co-occurring conditions. Adrienne has expertise in treating co-occurring conditions such as mental and emotional health, hormonal or endocrine issues, chronic pain or autoimmune syndromes, or other medical issues that can complicate things. Adrienne will collaborate with your medical team for comprehensive care

  • Sometimes gastrointestinal challenges can get so severe that an eating disorder might form. Adrienne can treat an eating disorder within a gastrointestinal health lens. We've got you covered.

Models we use:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for IBS and IBD (Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease respectively)

  • Low FODMAP An evidenced-based modified carbohydrate protocol for IBS and a host of other gastrointestinal conditions. FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols.

  • NICE Guidelines National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, UK protocols for IBS and other gastrointestinal issues.

  • Modified Fiber Protocols

  • ERP (Exposure Response Prevention) for food-specific anxiety, aversions, or phobias.

"I was referred to Adrienne for nutrition help for my IBS. Adrienne efficiently and comprehensively gathered my complex medical history and current symptoms. She them preceded to give me 5 recommendations in descending order of importance. One thing she suggested I do was to shift my primary fiber source and she also spoke to me about recent research in gastroenterology and related new products that could help me. From just these two things, my life changed. I am now able to eat virtually any foods and my symptoms are controlled better than they have been in over a decade of struggling with IBS."

Henry, age 52

Other Medical Nutrition Needs

Most medical issues alter and disrupt nutrition needs in a variety of ways.

Sensitive, evidenced-based nutrition support is a critical part of healing from medical issues and managing symptoms so you can feel your best.

Many of my clients tell me that their previous nutritionist merely handed them a list of foods they needed to avoid.

Instead of a one-fits-all approach, you and I will collaborate to create a truly individualized, detailed and doable plan. Call our office today to learn more about working together or click here.

In good health,
