Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best way to make an appointment?

Give us a call (240-449-4022) or complete the contact form and our intake coordinator will reach out to you. She will ask you about your nutrition or eating concerns, match you with a dietitian, answer any questions you may have, and book your first appointment. If we are not the best fit, we will provide you with other good referral options.

I want to lose weight. Do you help people lose weight?

Good question! We are not a weight loss clinic nor do we "treat obesity." The focus of our approach is to normalize eating behaviors and to help you develop enjoyable and sustainable exercise and lifestyle habits. We teach our clients how to eat with self-actuation, intuition, active listening, and body-respect. If compulsive or binge eating has contributed to true excess weight, you may lose weight as a result of the work we do together but everyone's body is different.

I have an eating disorder. Do your clients get better?

Yes, or we'd have trouble sleeping at night. Eating disorders are treatable complex illnesses. We help our clients work towards full recovery with evidence-based treatment plans and the best treatment teams in place. The dietitians at Dr. Daisy & Co. are highly skilled and experienced outpatient treatment providers for patients and their families struggling with eating disorders.

What can I expect during my nutrition counseling sessions?

During the first appointment, we will talk about your (or your child’s) medical, eating, and weight history, review lab results (if applicable), and discuss current eating patterns and health and behavioral nutrition concerns. By the end of the initial appointment, we will have a good plan for sessions moving forward, and we will give you some initial recommendations to practice before your next session.

Your follow-up sessions will be supportive conversations about your eating and movement goals. We are nutrition experts but we believe that our clients know their bodies best. We will give you new skills to practice each week until you feel comfortable and confident in your ability to practice your new skills and habits on your own.

What ages do you work with?

We work with all ages. We have pediatric nutrition services for infants, children and teens, and nutrition services for adults.

How often do you meet with clients? And, how many sessions will I need?

We recommend meeting weekly, if possible, as this works best for behavior change. In terms of the total number of sessions recommended, this varies depending on your presenting nutrition needs. To give you an idea, nutrition counseling for eating disorders and emotional eating is typically longer-term, requiring at least 8 sessions, whereas nutrition counseling for medical issues is typically 2-3 sessions.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We require a 48-hour cancellation notice so that we can utilize that time to help another client.  Late cancellations within the 48-hour window will be charged the full fee of the appointment.  You can cancel your appointment by calling us at 240-449-4022.

What forms of payment do you accept?

A credit, debit, or flex spending card is needed to book your appointment online. If you would like to pay with a check, cash, or with a different card, you can do so at the time of your appointment.

How do you work with my other treatment providers?

We believe in a collaborative approach to nutrition care. We are happy to speak with your treatment providers about your health and well-being. We can also provide you with referrals to help you establish this support. We do not charge for these services.
